Belgian grid operator Elia announced the results of its Capacity Remuneration Mechanism (CRM) auction just before the end of October.
Coo’s maximum capacity totals 1,080 MW. Pumped storage is currently the only way to store electricity on a large scale. In Belgium, the Coo station is therefore essential for the balance on the grid. The turbines can be started up at any time to offset a sudden drop in generation or to absorb excess electricity.
