What happens after a battery module is assembled?

After the battery module is assembled, it needs to be placed into the battery tray. As this tray is a key structural component of the vehicle as well as integral in protecting the battery cells, it needs to be of the highest strength and stability.

How is a battery module manufactured?

The new guide explains module production from pouch as well as cylindrical and prismatic cells, from begin-of-line testing and stacking as well as plugging of the cells, through assembly of the battery management system and tab contacting using various welding processes, to final assembly.

According to the guide, battery manufacturers will also produce each component themselves much more frequently in the near future, instead of buying them in as they have in the past. Current forecasts predict that in-house production of battery cells will increase from nine to 60 percent between 2020 and the period after 2024.

The battery tray assembly consists of several production steps. Depending on the battery design and manufacturing processes, manual tightening with bolt positioning and process control, or flow drill fastening with K-Flow technology can bring the needed process quality, productivity and flexibility.
