Both researchers and electric car manufacturers consider solid-state batteries to be the super battery of the future. Most recently, Toyota has announced that they expect to launch an electric car with a lithium solid-state battery in 2027-28.
Perhaps, but the race to build a superbattery is far from won, not least because the contenders come in many different forms. Some solid-state batteries are already on the market. For instance, Blue Solutions, a French company that is part of the giant Bolloré Group, produces one containing a polymer as its electrolyte.

But the key to Khoshkalam's invention is the materials used, as they are far more abundant than the precious metals typically used in batteries and can be sourced for a lot less money.
The battery technology is designed to be used in smaller-sized cells, replacing existing coin-shaped batteries found in watches and other small electronics.
