The Lead Acid Battery Manufacturing area source category was listed for regulation pursuant to section 112 (c) (3) for its contribution of the urban hazardous air pollutants (HAP) lead and cadmium.
Lead acid batteries were first established as a performance standard on January 14, 1980. New source performance standards were first proposed in 40 CFR part 60, subpart KK for the Lead Acid Battery Manufacturing source category on this date ( 45 FR 2790 ).
