China's industrial regulator plans to launch a major document to guide the production capacity of lithium-ion batteries, which industry experts said will knock out a batch of low-end battery cells and accelerate the structural adjustment of the country's booming lithium-ion battery sector.
This is a revision of the 2014 version of the standard. It will come into effect Jan. 1, 2024. The revised standard includes updated definitions of “ lithium-ion battery ” and other terms; new items that should be displayed on products; and changed requirements for product safety tests.
The Standard Conditions provides standardised guidance on the operation of lithium-ion battery companies and projects from many aspects. At the same time, the document also stipulates the performance of almost every type of lithium-ion batteries and battery packs, including consumer batteries and motive power batteries.
These standards apply to batteries, including lithium batteries. They include obligations such as the use of extinguishing systems with chemicals appropriate for lithium battery fires, as well as training in the safe storage of lithium batteries.
