Overall, the physical contact at the solid-state battery interface has a significant impact on the battery performance. By optimizing the physical contact between the solid-state electrolyte and the lithium cathode, the battery performance and stability can be improved. 6. Conclusions and outlook
The following is a summary of the physical contact at the interface of solid-state batteries: (1) Interfacial impedance: The interfacial impedance of a solid-state battery cell is influenced by the intimate contact between the solid electrolyte and the lithium cathode.
In addition, a quantitative analysis on welded test samples reveals the ultimate tensile strength and heat input into a battery cell. A novel measuring and calculation method was designed and applied to assess the electrical contact resistance itself. The electrical contact resistance occurs as a result of the joint and not in the bulk material.
In this paper the energy loss due to electrical contact resistance (ECR) at the interface of electrodes and current-collector bars in Li-ion battery assemblies is investigated for the first time. ECR is a direct result of contact surface imperfections and acts as an ohmic resistance at the electrode-collector joints.
The complex electrochemical behavior that occurs in the interface between solid electrolyte and electrode materials, challenges the materials scientists to address the interfacial issues in solid-state batteries. The poor ionic conductivity and poor contact between the cathode and solid electrolyte cause poor cathode interface performance.
