To successfully develop a charging system with the required features, it was necessary to re-think both the power electronics and the contacting system. In order to charge a battery-electric vehicle, a continuous electrical connection must be established between an energy supply network and the vehicle's battery terminal.
Since the standard stipulates galvanic isolation from the vehicle for DC charging, the chargers have an integrated transformer for isolation. Current technology provides charging voltages of up to 920 V. The charging voltage can be increased for higher charging power, although the limits of the usual 1200 V semiconductors are quickly reached.
Regarding the charging methods for new energy private cars (Fig. 5.10), the fast charging duration is mainly concentrated within 2 h, with vehicles with a duration within 2 h accounting for 93.3%; the distribution of slow charging duration is relatively dispersed, with vehicles with a duration of 2–6 h accounting for 60%.
Therefore, to improve charging efficiency and user experience, ensure charging safety and battery lifespan, establishing and selecting scientific charging strategies for safe, efficient, and stable charging is crucial in accident prevention. Traditional fast charging methods usually entail charging the battery with high currents.
The future development of new energy electric vehicles relies heavily on charging technology. It is imperative for the industry to intensify research efforts in charging technology and ensure its effective development and application.
