Experiments are carried out on a 2-kW distributed PV system on the roof of a university in Northeast China to verify the effectiveness of the negative pressure adsorption system and the obstacle crossing and cleaning abilities of the robot. The results show that the water-free cleaning robot can effectively remove dust from the panels.
Mechanical removal of dusts The mechanical methods remove the dusts by brushing, blowing, vibrating and ultrasonic driving. The brushing methods clean the solar cell with something like the broom or brush that were driven by the machine was designed just like windscreen-wiper.
Water washing is the common way to reduce the dust deposition problem. Nevertheless, the direct water cleaning method has a high cost and is not efficient. Thus, new cleaning methods are needed to be developed to reduce dust deposition on solar cells.

Although “dust” is a term that encompasses a wide variety of particulate matter, typical desert dust particles that foul solar panels are mineral particulate matter (13, 17, 18, 33). There can be variation in mineral/chemical composition of the particles depending on the geographical location (18).
The material, structure, and sealing device of the robot are optimized based on the carrying capacity of the PV system and the operating efficiency. A combined dust removal system consisting of a rolling brush and negative pressure is developed to prevent dust raising during cleaning.
