In order to create a more reliable electricity flow and simultaneously a space-saving alternative for wind farms, the concept of a solar wind blade (SWB) has been developed. This design differs from the existing hybrid solar and wind energy concepts as it combines the usage of both sources in one device.
To understand how solar turbines work, one has to understand how turbines work. Turbines are rotating devices that generate energy mechanically or electrically. For example, the engine of a jet aircraft is powered by a gas turbine. In a power plant, the turbine operates a rotating electrical generator to produce electricity.
Usually, all blades are moved simultaneously, but some models are able to turn them individually, thus being able to use gravity to increase momentum [ 13 ]. A typical wind blade can be divided into three parts. The main part is called the mid span, which, next to the tip, undergoes the highest lift-to-drag ratio.
But in one simplified explanation of lift, when wind travels over the rounded, downwind face of the blade, it has to move faster to reach the end of the blade in time to meet the wind travelling over the flat, upwind face of the blade (facing the direction from which the wind is blowing).
This paper introduces a solar wind blade, which uses implemented solar concentrators, thus these blades take advantage of wind and solar energy at the same time.
