The early researches have shown the unsuspected possibilities of supercapacitors and traced a new direction for the development of electrical energy storage systems . In recent times, with the development of new materials and technologies, very large developed surfaces and very small inter-electrode distances have been achieved.
Capacitors exhibit exceptional power density, a vast operational temperature range, remarkable reliability, lightweight construction, and high efficiency, making them extensively utilized in the realm of energy storage. There exist two primary categories of energy storage capacitors: dielectric capacitors and supercapacitors.
The simulation is carried out in Matlab/Simulink. The simulation results show that the proposed method combines SOC estimation and energy conversion, which can realize the optimal management of super capacitor and has fast dynamic response capability. 1. INTRODUCTION
The capacitance values of a discrete supercapacitor can range from a single Farad to thousands of Farads, and the voltage rating would be based on electrochemical properties, as opposed to dielectric thickness like that of ceramic or Tantalum technology.
The block diagram of the energy management strategy designed to meet both the requirements of the super capacitor terminal voltage and the grid voltage is shown in Figure 5. The system uses six voltage regulation loops.
The relationship between the voltage of the super capacitor terminal and the SOC is as shown in equation (10). where C SC is the capacity of the supercapacitor; U SC is the supercapacitor terminal voltage; U N is the rated voltage of the supercapacitor.
