Although the lead based halide perovskite has been applied in the anode of the lithium battery, it is necessary to develop new lead-free perovskite anode materials because of its the instability and environmental unfriendliness.
Moreover, perovskites can be a potential material for the electrolytes to improve the stability of batteries. Additionally, with an aim towards a sustainable future, lead-free perovskites have also emerged as an important material for battery applications as seen above.
To eliminate the use of lead-based perovskites, Jaffe et al. initially reported extended Li + cycling in a metal chloride electrode based on lead-free (EDBE) [CuCl 4] perovskite as a cathode for LIBs. The results demonstrated over 200 cycles and an open-circuit voltage of 3.2 V.
To further enhance the stability of lead-free perovskites, all-inorganic lead-free perovskites have recently gotten considerable attention. In numerical simulation, the CsSnI 3 based perovskite solar cell has the highest power conversion efficiency of 28.97% among all the lead-free perovskite based devices.
As a result, a considerable amount of research is now focused on developing stable lead-free perovskites for LIBs. These lead-free perovskites exhibit complex crystal structures that are tolerant to defects and can accommodate inserted ions, making them promise for Li + storage.
