In this paper, a thermal management strategy for the passenger compartment of a battery electric vehicle is developed with the aim to reduce the power consumption of the heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system. Simultaneously, the thermal comfort of the passengers has to be ensured.
The main components of the battery electric vehicle thermal management control system are sensors, actuators and controllers. Most of the sensors are composed of temperature and pressure sensors.
Feng studied the thermal management control strategy of the pure electric vehicle powertrain cooling system as a research object. They designed a multi-input multi-output model predictive controller. The heat production power of the cooling system is used as the disturbance quantity.
Chakib et al. investigated and assessed the battery thermal management system (BTMS), which is required for electric and hybrid vehicles to function properly in all climates, based on Peltier effect heat pumps.
A liquid-based thermal management system for battery is a type of BTMS that uses liquid as a cooling medium to regulate the temperature of the battery. It contributes to increased lithium-ion battery efficiency and longer battery life. In comparison to air-based BTMS, it can also offer improved heat transfer and cooling performance.
