The relative charge level, often called the state of charge (SOC), is defined as the ratio of residual charge to the battery's charge capacity. Hence charge flow must be measured and monitored through a procedure called "coulomb counting." In practice, coulomb counting is accomplished by integrating the currents flowing into and out of the cell.
Battery management is part of power measurement. The fuel gauge is responsible to estimate the capacity of battery in the domain of battery management. The basic function of fuel gauge is to monitor the voltage, charge/discharge current and battery temperature, and to estimate the battery’s SOC and Full Charge Capacity (FCC) of battery.
Anyhow, the battery’s electrochemical kinetics and temperature affect the battery’s voltage. You can rely on the voltage method by using a lookup table of the battery’s open-circuit voltage (OCV) vs. temperature. As well as, by a correction term proportional to the battery current and by compensating the voltage reading.
Gauge charge algorithm based on temperature. Helps reduce additional degradation by charging the battery safely. Uses gauge measured battery information to determine charge voltage and currents. Can be used to control SMB-compliant chargers (see BCAST). WRONG! Correct: Battery removable or not! Count and keep track of charge in and out.
2.4 Dynamic Voltage-based Fuel Gauge The dynamic voltage-based fuel gauge calculates and determines the Li+ battery SOC according to battery voltage only. The algorithm estimates the increasing or decreasing SOC by an iteration model according to the difference between the battery voltage and the battery OCV.
To determine the available charge in a battery, simple monitoring methods are preferred. They should consume little energy and should (ideally) allow one to deduce the charge level from battery voltage.

Understanding State of Charge (SOC) for Optimal Performance
At its most basic level, SOC is a way to measure how much energy a battery has left. Think of it like a fuel gauge in a car it tells you how much gas is in the tank. Similarly, SOC tells you how much energy is left in your battery. So, if your battery has a capacity of 100 kilowatt-hours (kWh) and its SOC is at 50%, that means it has 50 kWh of ...
