With the ongoing trend of self-consuming electricity produced from PV systems installed on the rooftop of the premises, implementing energy storage system is now one of Thailand interests to achieve more reliable source of renewable electricity and match with consumption patterns of electricity users.
Development advantages of solar power in Thailand From a climate perspective, most areas in Thailand have a tropical monsoon climate, characterized by high temperatures all year round and distinct dry and wet seasons. Thailand is located near the equator, with long sunshine hours and abundant solar power in Thailand.
It opines that robust Solar + Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) will be a key component to meet the kingdom's energy commitments. According to Thailand's Power Development Plan (PDP), renewable energy is projected to rise to 51%, a significant increase from 20% last year, with solar energy expected to make up about 70% of this total.
In Thailand, these are comprised of rooftop PV systems, ground-mounted PV systems and floating PV systems. The implementation can be done in both self-consumption with the ability to sell the excess electricity back to the grid, and with the private power purchase agreement (private-PPA) aspects.
This latest endeavor adds to Gulf Energy Development’s existing portfolio, which already includes 25 solar power projects in Thailand. With a total contracted capacity of 1,353.1 megawatts, these projects encompass both traditional solar farms and those integrated with battery energy storage systems.
Thailand is well connected to the international market and is highly receptive to China's advanced technology and various resource information, which is more conducive to the introduction of high-tech technology and funds to develop the localized photovoltaic industry.
