The back contact is the part of the solar cell on the other part of the sunny side, and its task is to contact the cell with the external circuit. Usually with other technologies, as in the case of CuInGaSe 2 or Cu 2 ZnSnSe 4, a metal such as molybdenum would be sufficient for contacting the cell.

For back-contact solar cells, some of the regions need to be blocked from the diffusion process. These regions might include the base region and the compensated region.
