The roofing configuration affects the yield of PV energy. By providing a systematic method to evaluate this influence, solar energy planners can differentiate between the benefits of traditional and sustainable rooftop configurations, which is the first step towards the coupling of distributed energy and sustainable building systems.
Table 6. Rooftop PV power plants’ performances. The final yield value of Koprubasi Vocational School rooftop PV SPP is calculated as 4.16 kWh/kWp/day, which is not much inferior to 4.7 to 6.2 kWh/kWp/day reported by Emziane and Al Ali (2015) for Abu Dhabi and 4.5 kWh/kWp/day reported by Al-Otaibi et al. (2015) for Kuwait.
An experimental study in the hot and dry climate of the United Arab Emirates found that integrated PV-cool roof systems increase annual rooftop PV yield between 5 and 10%,\ which is potentially higher than the yield from a PV-green roof system.
Including roof temperature into solar energy modelling improves accuracy, as shown in Zurich where PVs on green and cool roofs can generate up to 4% more solar energy than on gravel roofs. The reflectivity, thickness, and thermal conductivity of the roof all affect the yield of solar energy.
This installation features 156 Silicon PV panels on a flat roof area of 525 m², with a slope of 13°. Technical information about the installation can be found in Section A.3 of the Appendix.
MADT AC energy produced by the rooftop power plant is provided in Fig. 7. Fig. 7. MADT AC energy produced and maximum temperature measured at the back surface of panels. The highest and the lowest average daily energy production of the system was 182.8 kWh in July and 45.9 kWh in January respectively.
