Using the iron heat up the terminal of the battery and apply solder, you don't have to heat the battery terminal all the way up to solder melting temperature, you can just use the iron to melt the solder. The solder should pool on the terminal, if it doesnt you need to rough it up more, and try again.
The longer the iron is in contact with the battery, the more heat will build up. To accomplish this, use a powerful, temperature-controlled soldering iron. A less powerful iron won’t maintain its temperature as effectively since the heat will be absorbed while soldering large pieces of metal.
Good news! (Especially for those of you with older Iso-Tip soldering irons.) We’ve learned that Batteries Plus performs battery repair for Iso-Tip soldering irons. So, if you happen to own a model we no longer manufacture, Batteries Plus may be able to help extend the tool’s life by rebuilding the battery.
Use high-quality solder with a flux core and avoid using additional acid-based flux (solder paste), as it can corrode the connection or battery over time. See my solder recommendation here. Before soldering, it’s best to discharge the Li-Ion battery down to 3V.
You may also want to consider using flux when soldering your 18650 batteries. Flux helps clean the surface of the battery terminals and improves conductivity, resulting in stronger connections. Having some extra pieces of wire or electrical tape can come in handy if you need to extend wires or insulate connections that may be too close together.
Fortunately, there are alternatives that can help you create a secure connection without having to solder. One alternative is using battery holders, which come in various shapes and sizes and allow you to snap your batteries into place without needing any tools or skills.

Second on our list is the Tooluxe 40420L, a cordless soldering iron with a very high-temperature capability and a neat ergonomic design. Much like the Hakko model listed above, the Tooluxe 40420L is also battery operated. Running on 4 AA batteries, this portable soldering iron can pack a lot of heat unlike the Hakko model.

If you''ve ever struggled to solder a thick circuit board trace or TO220 package with a soldering iron, you''ll understand the problem. The heat conducts away almost as fast as it can be delivered, resulting in an overheated board or component and an underheated solder joint.
Ryobi''s One+ soldering iron takes a different approach to the cordless type of soldering iron, featuring a battery pack with a stand connected to a traditional-style soldering iron tip. While the design does actually include a cord, it doesn''t require a connection to a power outlet, making it a great choice for fiddly repairs on the go, as the ...

I absolutely love this iron and expect it to last for many years. I''ve heard many great things about these irons [Model #7700] and their lifespan, so I decided to buy this to help in my search for a portable soldering iron…My favorite feature is the fact that it is heat-on-demand, with 45 watts in such a small tip, temperature control is easy and it heats up super fast.

I actually find I use my station less once I bought a digital soldering iron. It heats up super fast, can control the temp with up and down, auto shut off when not used for more than a few minutes. Get the plug in type and a really good surge protector. No use in spending a lot of money when starting out. Reply reply [deleted] • I agree! Once one gets good at soldering, then it makes …
