Layout of single basin tubular solar still. A tubular solar still employs the same principle of the traditional basin solar still process, but differs in shape (cylindrical). The solar intensity is transmitted through the transparent tubular cover attaining the absorber and heat up the saline water in the trough.
In recent years, the emphasis has been placed on developing the design of various solar stills in order to overcome the problem of the low yield of traditional stills. Tubular solar still (TSS) is one of the results of continuous development in design techniques of solar stills.
Solar energy is renewable, clean, and cost free. Tubular solar still is used to overcome the low production of conventional solar stills and reduce the produced fresh water cost. This work provides a comprehensive review, evaluation, economic feasibility, and recent development of the various designs of tubular solar stills.
The pgotographs of the proposed TSSs are illustrated in Fig. 18(a and b). They conducted that the daily efficiency and yield of a triangular and tubular solar stills reached 35%, 41%, 1.336 l/m2day, and 1.6 l/m2day, respectively. Based on the distillate production, the performance of TSS is 20% higher than that of triangular still.
