Why do solar cells use silver paste glass?

The silver paste composition for the front side has a strong influence on the firing behaviour, contact formation and resulting efficiency of the solar cell. It is state of the art that the paste glass is needed for etching the ARC silicon nitride during firing and also plays a major role for the transport of silver to the silicon surface.

What happens during the final sintering process?

In the final sintering stage, the priorly-formed sintering necks grow obviously and the silver is almost completely densified, which causes the continue pore channels broken up into isolated pores. Moreover, during the subsequent sintering process, the densification process gets dramatically slow along with the coarsening of Ag grains.

Why is metallization important in crystalline silicon solar cells?

Introduction Metallization is a key process step in the fabrication of crystalline silicon solar cells. It is well known, that the composition of the metallization paste has a strong influence on the firing behaviour, contact formation and resulting efficiency of the cell.

What is the sintering process and contact formation process of PTO glass?

In the paper, sintering process and contact formation process of PTO glass containing pastes were studied by interrupting the firings at different temperatures. Microstructures of contact fingers fabricated using pastes with PTO glass by interrupted firings were obtained by FIB/SEM technology and the sintering process of pastes was studied.

What is the metallization process of solar cells?

During metallization, metals (Ag, Cu, Ni) are used to form the electrodes on the surface of solar cell panels. Because metals are not transparent to solar radiation, electrode coverage in the front side, where the sunlight enters the panel, should be as small as possible. Detailed metallization process will be discussed in the later section.

What affects the temperature interval of sintering process?

The exact temperature interval of each sintering stage is strongly affected by physical and chemical properties glass added in the paste. The great disharmony between the flow process of glass-phase and Ag densification process will cause much glass trapped in densified Ag and a non-uniform etching of Si wafers.
