At 10:00 AM, the plant was successfully connected to the grid and operated stably, marking the completion of the construction of the first national demonstration project of compressed air energy storage in China in accordance with the commercial power station standards.
Dai Jianfeng, a deputy chief engineer of China Electric Power Planning and Engineering Institute, said the new energy storage in China has been developed through diverse technology routes. According to him, lithium-ion battery is still dominant at present, but the development of compressed air and liquid flow battery is accelerating.
Their new energy-storage capacity in 2022 accounted for 86 percent of the global total, up 6 percentage points from 2021. The CNESA report estimated that China's cumulative installed capacity of new energy storage in 2027 may reach 138.4 gigawatts if the country's provincial-level regions achieve their targets of energy-storage construction.
(See Figure 1) On August 1st, 2023, IET and Zhong-Chu-Guo-Neng Co. Ltd accomplished a significant feat, that is, the successful integration test of a 300MW compressed air expander.
It is also a national key scientific research support project for the clean and efficient utilization of coal. The project has a total investment of 320 million yuan ($44.6million), covering an area of about 7,800 square meters.
In addition, this project will effectively enhance the peak load regulation capacity of the power grid in southern Hebei, increase the proportion of new energy consumption, and promote new energy development and energy structure transformation in Hebei Province.
