Challenges in Industrial Battery Cell Manufacturing The basis for reducing scrap and, thus, lowering costs is mastering the process of cell production. The process of electrode production, including mixing, coating and calendering, belongs to the discipline of process engineering.

Figure 1 introduces the current state-of-the-art battery manufacturing process, which includes three major parts: electrode preparation, cell assembly, and battery electrochemistry activation.
