This trigger circuit combines the isolation of the trigger signal and trigger energy with one component, the trigger transformer. It is a simple trigger concept and works for almost all applications. The concept is limited by the isolation capability of the trigger transformer.
The most important advantage of the isolated triggering circuit is the isolation between user interface/controller and thyristor power stage (line supply circuit). The requirement depends on application, grid system, line voltage and installation position. Designing the correct isolation is a challenge for some applications.
PCSS trigger circuit’s structure and principle are the same as in Fig. 6, and the current limiting resistor R l resistance is 100 ohms. In the red box there is TVS and its discharge circuit, and energy storage capacitor C 0 is 50 nF. DC high voltage (+HV) charges 20-30 kV to C 0 before triggering.

IV. CONCLUSION A pulse trigger based on photoconductive switch is introduced in this paper. The preliminary experimental results show that the rise time of the PCSS trigger is ∼10 ns, and the 20 times the delay jitter is 330 ps, which verifies the stability of the PCSS trigger.
