Can solar-powered upcycling plants produce sustainable fuels and Value-Added Chemicals?

With appropriate light harvesting, catalyst design, device configurations and waste pre-treatment strategies, a range of sustainable fuels and value-added chemicals can already be selectively produced from diverse waste feedstocks, including biomass and plastics, demonstrating the potential of solar-powered upcycling plants.

Why do we need a solar-to-hydrogen conversion system?

Due to the much lower onset voltage of WAS oxidation, and thus suppression of OER, the developed electrochemical system could be powered directly by PV panels, which avoids the grid integration of PV electricity and thus is very beneficial for safe solar-to-hydrogen conversion.

Is solar reforming a catalytic process?

Solar reforming is both a sunlight-driven and catalytic process; therefore, its system performance is tied to the photophysical properties of the semiconductor light absorber and the electronic and chemical properties of the catalysts 94.
