It has been studied and simulated that the specific energy consumption (SEC) of the reverse osmosis process in a seawater plant is between 2.5 to 4.0 kWh/m 3 , higher than its theoretical minimum.
Osmosis is a natural phenomenon which means the transfer of water from less concentrated solutions to higher concentrations through a permeable membrane, and reverse osmosis is an opposite technique to this phenomenon where the water moves from the solution of higher concentration to the lowest concentration.
As reverse osmosis (RO) continues to improve and increase its share of the desalination market, many scientists and researchers have proposed improvements in the system configurations, materials, and energy recovery devices attached to it.
Waste heat can be utilized to increase the performance of reverse osmosis (RO) desalination plants. Waste heat is the energy that is discharged by industrial processes, power generation, or other sources and is typically released into the environment.
Design a wasted heat energy assisted RO system aiming to increase the recovery and reduce the energy consumption by recovering waste heat energy below 70°C. Performance analysis of the proposed system due to salinity, recovery rate, quality of water product with energy consumption as increasing temperature of feed.
