Gensets cranking has a fundamental role in hospitals, where a failure in the power supply represents a high-risk condition, implying not only economic losses, but also the possible loss of human lives . Indeed, in absence of alternative power sources , the UPS of the operating rooms is available for no more than one hour.
Nowadays the energy storage for emergency genset cranking is provided only by lead-acid batteries: a fail of these accumulators could easily lead a hospital to a blackout.
