Lead acid, the historical mainstay offgrid battery systems, faces tough competition from multiple lithium battery chemistries. Meanwhile new grid-connected applications of batteries have already eclipsed the size of the offgrid market.

How much does a household battery cost?

Household batteries typically cost anywhere from $4000 for a smaller 4 to 5kWh battery up to $15,000 for a larger 10 to 15kWh battery, depending on the type of battery, installation location, backup power requirements and type of hybrid inverter used. On average, energy storage batteries cost around $1000 per kWh installed.

When will Saft start a battery-based project?

In April 2024, we announced the launch of a new battery-based project in the country, at our depot in Feluy, with a start-up expected at the end of 2025. It will have a power rating of 25 MW and capacity of 75 MWh, thanks to the forty “Intensium Max High Energy” lithium-ion containers supplied by Saft.
