This paper presents a family of Capacitive Power Transfer compensation topologies. According to the output requirements of targeted applications, the categorized compensation topologies are useful for selecting the appropriate one to achieve constant-voltage or constant-current characteristics.
In an inductive battery charging system, for better power transfer capability and attaining required power level, compensation is necessary. This paper analyzes series/parallel (S/P) and dual side inductorcapacitor- capacitor (LCC) compensation topologies for inductive power transfer of electric vehicle (EV) battery charging system.
According to the datasheet, the switching current should be larger than 2.4 A for the fully discharge of parasitic capacitors. Thus, the switching current is set as 3 A. According to the parameters in Table 5, when n = 1.15, Δ L1 goes to the minimum value, which is −2.26 μ H.
The proposed S/PS structure contains only three compensation capacitors, few compensation elements, simple structure, low economic cost, in addition, the secondary-side does not contain compensation inductor, ensuring the compactness of the secondary-side.
The capacitive power transfer is focused for electric vehicle charging application. A family of compensation topologies converters is presented. The compensation topologies are derived and categorized by output requirement. A design procedure is summarized to devise resonant networks and parameters.
In the capacitive-based wireless charging system, the higher-order compensation topology is essential to enhance power transfer capability limited by the small coupling capacitance. However, with the increase of the resonant elements, the form of the resonant network becomes diverse.
