Connection loss captures resistive losses across wiring connectors and diodes. This loss can be avoided as most solar panels contain bypass diodes. The bypass diodes are connected in parallel with solar panels. It creates a path for the current to flow around them in case the panels become faulty.
For identical panels wired in parallel, the currents are summed and the voltage stays the same. For example, let's go back to the scenario of 3 identical solar panels, all with a voltage of 12 volts and a current of 8 amps. When wired in parallel, the 3 connected panels will have a voltage of 12 volts and a current of 24 amps (8A + 8A + 8A).
When wired in series, the 3 connected panels (often called a series "string") will have a voltage of 36 volts (12V + 12V + 12V) and a current of 8 amps. In this example, the series string will have no losses. For mismatched solar panel wired in series, the voltages are summed and the current is equal to that of the lowest-rated panel.
The current from the parallel connected string (often called a "block") will then have a lower current than the remaining blocks in the module. This is electrically identical to the case of one shaded solar cell in series with several good cells, and the power from the entire block of solar cells is lost. The figure below shows this effect.
Obstruction and Shading: The most significant disadvantage of wiring solar panels in series is that the output of the entire array is dependent on the individual production of each module. If you have 20 solar panels with a rated voltage of 6V each, the maximum potential output during peak sun hours is 120V.
When connecting solar panels in parallel, it’s crucial to prioritize safety. Firstly, ensure each panel is of the same voltage rating. Mismatched voltages can lead to inefficient charging and potential damage. Use fuses or circuit breakers on each line that feeds from the solar panel to the combiner box.

Understanding the series and parallel connection of solar panels
Engineers also connect solar panels in a series-parallel configuration. Several panels are first wired together in series to form strings of panels (for instance, three strings of solar panels featuring two panels connected in series would make up a total of six solar panels). To form a series-parallel connection, these strings of panels are then wired in parallel, as …
