In this paper, latest progress on carbon anode materials for lithium ion batteries is briefly reviewed including research on mild oxidation of graphite, formation of composites with metals and metal oxides, coating by polymers and other kinds of carbons, and carbon nanotubes.
However, their capacity is limited. Blending these two material types to create a conductive and flexible carbon supporting nanocomposite framework as an anode material for LIBs is regarded as one of the most beneficial techniques for improving stability, conductivity, and capacity.
It was first reported by Peled et al. that mild oxidation of artificial graphite could modify its electrochemical performance as anode material for lithium ion batteries . The main effect is ascribed to two processes: the production of nanochannels and/or micropores and the formation of a dense layer of oxides.
The anode material significantly influences the electrochemical characteristics of LIBs. Many materials that exhibit electrochemical activity and possess a high theoretical specific capacity have been proposed to fulfill the significant need for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) with elevated energy densities.
Such endeavors are conducive to advancing anode material innovation and are poised to drive the progress of the lithium-ion battery industry. Table 5. A synopsis of various failure occurrences observed in anode materials used in lithium-ion batteries.
