The Government of Kosovo has recognized the need for additional power plant capacity to meet the long-term security-of-supply concerns present in Kosovo and provide the country’s necessary baseload electricity. As part of this strategy, the Kosovo e Re Power Plant will replace the current outdated units of the Kosovo A Power Plant.

The greatest part of generation capacities of Kosovo are the two power plants: Kosova A and Kosova B. The capacities of the two power plants are lower than the installation parameters level, because of the outdated system and lack of maintenance during the last decade of the 20th century.
The system will stabilize the fluctuating frequency of electricity, store energy in the early hours of the morning when consumption is low, and connect with solar, wind, or similar power plants. Kosovo* will own the facilities, the ministry added.
