Based on our comprehensive review, we have outlined the prospective applications of optimized liquid-cooled Battery Thermal Management Systems (BTMS) in future lithium-ion batteries. This encompasses advancements in cooling liquid selection, system design, and integration of novel materials and technologies.
When the battery module is discharged at a rate of 2C, the flow rate is no less than 12 L/h. In addition, when the range of flow rate is 12 ∼ 20 L/h, Z-LCS, F1-LCS or F2-LCS should be adopted. When the range of flow rate is higher than 20 L/h, four kinds of liquid cooling systems can be used.
Improved Battery Life: By using a liquid-cooled system, the batteries can be kept at a more stable and cooler temperature, which can extend their lifespan and reduce the risk of failure. Higher Efficiency: When the batteries are kept at a cooler temperature, they can operate more efficiently, resulting in greater energy output and lower costs.
Therefore, a method is needed to control the temperature of the battery. This article will discuss several types of methods of battery thermal management system, one of which is direct or immersion liquid cooling. In this method, the battery can make direct contact with the fluid as its cooling.
Upgrading the energy density of lithium-ion batteries is restricted by the thermal management technology of battery packs. In order to improve the battery energy density, this paper recommends an F2-type liquid cooling system with an M mode arrangement of cooling plates, which can fully adapt to 1C battery charge–discharge conditions.
Therefore, it is necessary to conduct heat management from each link of the lithium-ion battery to reduce the risk of thermal runaway. Thermal management can be achieved by improving the electrical properties and thermal stability of battery materials. This is an effective solution starting from the battery source.
