Positive electrodes for Li-ion and lithium batteries (also termed “cathodes”) have been under intense scrutiny since the advent of the Li-ion cell in 1991. This is especially true in the past decade.
High loading electrode design is beneficial to increase the energy density of lithium ion batteries. Two obstacles for the high loading electrode application should be removed, including the limitation on ion/electron transport within high loading electrode and the structure stability.
Hence, the current scenario of electrode materials of Li-ion batteries can be highly promising in enhancing the battery performance making it more efficient than before. This can reduce the dependence on fossil fuels such as for example, coal for electricity production. 1. Introduction
The developed technique is applicable to all porous structures independent of their electronic conductivity. Importantly, for lithium-ion batteries the technique does not require free-standing electrodes and therefore is applicable to industrially relevant high power electrodes as a tool for optimization as well as for quality control.
