Attempt to determine the location of the fault in the following order: 1) First, remove the battery charger. This often removes the ground detection circuit itself. Once the dc bus leads are removed, a DVM can be used to measure the voltages between the dc bus and building ground, to see if the bond to ground has been reduced.
Connect the ground lug of the test and measurement device to the grounding electrode system of your facility through an equipment grounding conductor of 14 AWG or larger stranded, copper wire. Figure 3. Grounding of Test and Measurement Devices Was this information helpful?
The device is easy to use, portable, and provides quick, accurate results, ensuring minimal disruption to operations. The MGFL100 battery ground fault locator locates ground faults on ungrounded DC and AC systems, DC battery systems, and protected IT networks.
If it is zero, there is no ground fault on the negative dc bus. Measure the voltage from the battery negative terminal to ground. If it is zero, there is no ground fault on the positive dc bus. If you get a voltage reading that is more than a few volts at either battery terminal, there may be a ground fault in the system.
In many dc systems, the battery is floating with respect to earth ground. Ground fault detection systems provide a means for indicating or measuring current leakage paths between ground and the positive or negative terminal of a battery or battery charger. This application note describes common methods for dc ground fault detection.
GOOD NEWS! So, the "GROUND" indicator on your battery charger is ON. It is probably working properly, and has correctly detected a ground fault somewhere along the dc bus. Most often, it does not mean the charger is malfunctioning. Now all you have to do is identify the source of the fault...and eliminate it.

10.5: Electrical Measuring Instruments
An ohmmeter is an instrument used to measure the resistance of a component or device. The operation of the ohmmeter is based on Ohm''s law. Traditional ohmmeters contained an internal voltage source (such as a battery) that would be connected across the component to be tested, producing a current through the component. A galvanometer was then ...
